URL Hunting: Get creative and score the perfect Web address.

The world of the four-letter dot-com domains is over.  Anyone who is searching for virtually any URL will tell you finding the perfect one is harder than ever.  The internet is a vast landscape of shady prospectors that continually grab up the prime undeveloped real estate in hopes of a quick payday down the road.  This leave the pickings pretty slim, with the cost of that perfect domain skyrocketing.  Because after-all, the is just a supply of one and then you are left asking yourself how bad you really want it.
But don't fear all is not lost.  You don't have to pay and arm and a leg for the perfect URL.  There are ton's of other ways to win on the web.  First, remember no one inputs a URL anymore.  The search bar took care of that long ago.  Try using an industry phrase in your URL, TeslaMotors.com is a great example, or a customer prompt like 'buy' or 'get' for your e-commerce site.  Don't forget Dropbox.com started out life as GetDropbox.com.  Another option is finding a great domain (TLD) like .NYC.  The National Association of Realtors just launched .Realtor.
Above all though, avoid the cardinal sin of choosing your new domain. Avoid a URL that hampers pronunciation or comprehension.  Getting to creative or to cute may hurt you.  And just because you understand what you mean doesn't mean someone else will.  Think of that time you saw a vanity plate on the highway and thought to yourself, "what was that guy thinking?".  It also can lead to headaches with spell checker or auto correct on mobile devices and it will make it nearly impossible for Siri, Google or Cortana to find you.

How Can I Increase My Organic Search Engine Rankings?

Friends, family, colleagues and co-workers ask me that question (or some variation of it) at least once a week.  Unfortunately there is no magic trick, or simple formula to follow.  Increasing your organic search engine rankings is not something you can do overnight and in today’s instant gratification world, this can be hard for people to comprehend.  Compounding their frustration are the hundreds (if not thousands) of companies out there trying to “mask” their practices of plug-and-play AdWords  and other PPC campaigns as organic search engine optimization.
Increasing your rankings on the organic side of the search engine results requires planning, creativity and above all patience.  Three to six months may seem like an eternity to the MTV generation, but in search engine terms, it’s a blink of an eye.  I do not know how many times I have been approached by someone who makes a change to their website and than is frustrated when they don’t jump up in the rankings the next day.   Changes, especially subtle ones on in-frequently crawled sites can take many weeks to start showing up in the search engines.
So what can you do to help increase you organic search engine rankings? There are quite a few things that impact your organic search rankings, including, but not limited to; content, navigation, back links, organization and quality.  Let’s look at some of these things in a little more detail.
